BMW x1 long wheelbase

A long-wheelbase version of the BMW X1 has been spied undergoing testing. The prototype could be a preview of a seven-seat model destined for the European market.

The Chinese market already has a longer version of the X1, but features a different grille and light. On the other hand, the spy shots show that the European long-wheelbase version of the X1 will retain the regular car’s design.

While BMW hasn’t released any powertrain details, the longer X1 is expected to get the same range of line-up of engines as the regular car, which uses four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines. Additionally, a three-cylinder engine could also be added sometime in the future. It is also expected that BMW will offer the new model in both front- and four-wheel-drive layouts.

The long-wheelbase X1 is currently still under development, however, our sister publication Autocar UK understands that BMW will launch the car sometime later this year.
