Maruti suzuki eritiga facelift

Price ₹ 6-9.28 lakhs

The Ertiga has received its first mid-life update to keep it relevant in the ever evolving Indian market. The MUV gets new hybrid technology for the diesel variants along with feature cosmetic changes to both exterior and interior.

Exterior

There are a few cosmetic changes to the exterior to differentiate it from its predecessor. The most evident change is the new two-slat grille in place of the current four-slat one. This is embellished in chrome to make the car look fresh. The front air intakes are also slightly modified and there are a few revisions to the bumper. There are no changes to the side, even the alloy wheels on the new car are same as before. The rear profile, on the other hand, gets its fair dose of chrome. There is an additional horizontal chrome stripe at the back and new reflector elements for the tail lamp. There is no drastic change in the way new Ertiga looks, but the onlookers will be able to distinguish this from the previous model.

Interior

The cabin of the facelifted car retains the same layout and upholstery. However, there are a few additional features like the ones we saw on the Dzire facelift. The start-stop button is standard on the top-end variant and it gets the new music system with touch-screen and navigation. The other features include retractable ORVMs and 50:50 split third row seats.

Engine and gearbox

Coming to the powertrain, there are no changes to the petrol versions of the Ertiga facelift. It continues to derive power from the 1.4-litre petrol engine producing 94bhp and 130Nm of torque. However, apart from the five-speed manual transmission, the VXi version is also available with the four-speed automatic transmission. The official fuel efficiency of the petrol MT is 17.05kmpl

The diesel variants of the Ertiga are mated to the SHVS (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) technology that improves the efficiency by 10 per cent to 15 per cent. Apart from the 1.3-litre Fiat Multijet diesel engine producing 89bhp of power and 200Nm of torque, the car gets a larger battery, regenerative braking and Integrated Starter Generator (ISG). This powers the engine start-stop function every time the car comes to halt in traffic and also assist in developing bottom-end torque. The ARAI fuel efficiency of the new diesel engine is 24.52kmpl.

Price and Competition

With the subsidy for the hybrid cars under the new FAME initiative, the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga facelift is priced very similar to the previous car. It competes with the Honda Mobilio and Chevrolet Enjoy in the entry-level seven-seater MUV segment. The MUV is available in six colours – radiant beige, serene blue, silky silver, pearl blue blaze, granite grey and superior white.

Maruti suzuki baleno

About Baleno

The Baleno is Maruti’s premium hatchback that competes against the Hyundai Elite i20, Honda Jazz and Volkswagen Polo. It is priced from Rs. 4.99 - 8.11 lakh ex-showroom Delhi, is offered in four petrol and diesel variants each and also comes with a single automatic variant mated to the petrol engine. The engines in question are tried and tested 1.2-litre (petrol) and 1.3-litre (diesel) units already employed in cars across the Maruti Suzuki range. The Baleno comes with class leading mileage figures of 21.4 kmpl and 27.4 kmpl for the petrol and diesel engines respectively.

Maruti Suzuki Baleno Price

 4.99 - 8.11 Lakh

7 key facts
1. Space
It’s always been a grouse with Maruti loyalists that the Swift isn’t spacious enough to get that premium hatchback tag. The Baleno is here to address these issues. It comes with a larger cabin, better rear seat space, both in terms of knee and shoulder room, and a 339 litre boot.

2. Tried and trusted mechanicals

This could be a good or a bad thing. The 1.2-litre VVT petrol and the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel have been around for donkey’s years. Both are not very expensive to manufacture and have lasted long enough due to their reliability. The gearboxes are borrowed as well. So you can’t go wrong with the Baleno on the reliability front. But the competition has moved ahead and offers higher levels of performance now. The Jazz and the Elite i20 have reliable blocks up front as well so the Baleno isn’t going to win buyers due to its mechanicals.

3. Efficiency

Now pushing the envelope on the ARAI claimed efficiency front has become a matter of bragging rights for manufacturers. Maruti has got that headline figure for the Baleno as well. It is one of the most efficient in the segment, with petrol claiming a mileage of 21.4kmpl and the diesel boasting of being the best in the segment with a claimed 27.39kmpl. In the real world, you know these figures will be far off the mark, but they most likely will be a notch above competition. That’s always a good thing.

4. Features

All premium hatchbacks these days come with the works! The Polo lags behind on this front but if Maruti has to compete with the Jazz and the Elite i20, lots of features is key. The Baleno gets climate control, a Touchscreen infotainment system with satellite navigation. It doubles up as display for the rear parking camera. Then there’s the usual steering mounted controls, keyless entry, push button start/stop, ABS, EBD and airbags. The steering adjusts for rake and reach and the driver’s seat is height adjustable.

Handling

Most Marutis are known to handle corners with a good measure of finesse and the Baleno is no different. That it is 100kg lighter than the Swift and the chassis is stiffer makes it a joy around the twisties. Body roll in check, a good ride and strong brakes add to the cause. It could well give the Polo a run for its money in the handling depart

6. Price

If Maruti wants to be aggressive in this fast growing segment, it’s got to beat the Elite i20 on the pricing front. Since the Baleno shares a lot of its parts from the common parts bin (Swift/Ciaz/S-Cross/Ertiga), this shouldn’t be a tough ask for India’s largest carmaker. Factor in economies of scale and you could well see the Baleno being priced tens of thousands cheaper than its fiercest rivals.

7. Nexa Experience

Maruti’s premium dealership chain Nexa will sell the Baleno. It’s always been a lingering thought while buying a Maruti, that the brand isn’t premium enough and the Nexa network of showrooms plans to change that.

Overview

The DC Avanti is India’s first mid-engined sports car. Made in a small factory in Poona, the DC Avanti does not really have any real competition in India as it is priced between Rs 35-37 lakhs depending on where you get it.
The looks might not be to everyone’s taste but you do have to compliment the carbonfibre bodywork that does look quite stunning in the flesh. The front for example is extremely aggressive with a large air dam with an inset mesh grille. The Avanti is a sheer showcase of design elements with a flowing shoulder line that splits right through the center and two large air scoops to cool the rear mounted engine. We also like the styling element on the hood and of course the louvered engine cover that reminds us of the likes of the poster-worthy supercars of the seventies and eighties. The rear design does look a little overdone and a little droopier than it should have been, but as a first time effort to build a car out of scratch, it is commendable.

The DC Avanti is mid-engined like the Ferrari 458 and is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder engine that makes a modest 250PS of peak power and 340Nm of peak torque. And with a kerb weight of only about 1500kgs, 250PS is adequate enough for the first time sportscar buyer.  The Avanti also comes with a 6-speed manual gearbox that is very well sorted.

The DC Avanti is also well set up when it comes to suspension setup. The car is based on a space frame construction setup which is a good thing considering there can be a lot of combinations that one can adapt to a space frame in the future. Coming to the way it drives, the DC Avanti is not very uncomfortable but does have a level of stiffness that does exceed most modern sports cars. Handling too is well sorted with the steering feeling quite direct with great feedback but there is slight delay in the steering sometimes, which we guess these teething issues can be easily sorted

On the whole, the DC Avanti is a great package for the first time sports car buyer who wants to make an entrance. The Avanti does have a lot of potential especially with the space frame structure that does feel really well made. It is priced well too and will certainly see quite a few buyers in India.

In its current Avatar, the 5 series gets refreshed looks and more gadgetry inside making it a tough package to resist. It’s an executive sedan that is not only practical but provides for an engaging driving experience as well. Stunning to look at, the 5 Series also has enough grunt under the hood to leave most cars in its wake, no matter which power plant you choose.

Suv special 4 suv's review Fortuner trailblazer pajero sport and endaevour

Editor’s View : Chevrolet Trailblazer
The Chevrolet Trailblazer is GM’s new premium SUV in the sub- Rs 30 lakh segment. It takes on the likes of the Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport in the segment. The Trailblazer has fantastic road presence, which will be the main draw in this segment. That massive grille in your wing mirrors, the bulging bonnet and the high set stance thanks to its 241mm ground clearance (highest in segment) shod by 265/60 R18 wheels, the Trailblazer does look the part of an SUV willing to rough it up and bully other motorists around. The size is big enough for the Trailblazer to need any kind of plastic cladding to accentuate it stance. Chunky six spoke alloys on those 18-inch wheels look the part as well. Like the exterior, the interior is a simple mix of functionality and space. The front seats are comfortable, you seat high up and the view out of the driver’s seat is excellent. There’s plenty of space for the middle row passengers as well and the seats are comfortable too. You can also hop into the third row of this genuine seven seater. The 7-inch Touchscreen infotainment system comes with a smartphone app link for internet radios like Tunein, there’s the usual USB, Aux-in and Bluetooth connectivity and there’s video playback too. The Trailblazer also gets leather seats, auto foldable outside mirrors and cruise control. And with four 12V sockets, AC vents for the second and third row, the Trailblazer gets all the comfort and convenience features you will need. On the safety front, you get two front airbags, ABS with EBD, hill start assist, hill descent control, traction control, ESC and cornering brake control. Powering the Trailblazer is 2.8-litre 4-cylimder duramax diesel engine that is known for its high torque output. With 200PS of power at 3,600rpm and 500Nm of torque at 2,000rpm, the Trailblazer has quite some punch to counter its 2068kg kerb weight. Power is sent to the rear wheels on this road going SUV. It’s a pity GM didn’t bring the 4WD variant to India considering it is a CBU. The Trailblazer comes with a ARAI rated mileage of 11.45kmpl. In the real world you will receive between 8-10kmpl.

About Endeavour

Ford had taken the game a notch up with the new Endeavour. It has the brawny looks the will please an SUV buyer, space to seat 7 with ease, and a lot of segment first features. The new Endeavour has been launched with two engine options - a 2.2-litre 4-pot diesel and a 3.2-litre 5-cylinder diesel. The former comes mated to a 6-speed MT as well as a 6-speed AT, while the larger 3.2 is only offered with the 6-speed autobox. The 4x4 version of the new Ford Endeavour is also available only with the 3.2-litre mill.

Editor’s View : Toyota Fortuner
The Toyota Fortuner is the quintessential entry level luxury SUV. Its butch looks are further complemented by its ability to go just about anywhere and its powerful engine. Fit and finish on the Fortuner is top notch and it too boasts of Toyota's legendary reliability. The Fortuner also has great on road mannerisms and comes with a decent level of kit

Editor’s View : Mitsubishi Pajero Sport
The second generation Mitsubishi Pajero has been on our market for a while now and it is beginning to show its age. The new Pajero Sport will carry the baton forward with the legendary off-road capabilities of a Mitsubishi SUV. The Pajero Sport comes with loaded with gizmos to meet demands of customers in its segment. The vehicle is designed to be easier to drive in the urban environment. Available only as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) makes it expensive. Both its rivals, the Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour are now available with rear- wheel drive variants that are cheaper, the Pajero Sport too will need a rear-wheel drive variant if it wants to rack up the sales figures.
